Mystic Fall Season 2008

    FALL 2008-
WE THE PEOPLE
     Led by director Nick Page

A celebration of democracy, our voices, and how we shape the world we live in.

The concert begins with some beloved folk anthems like "Bread and Roses" (sung by our women's voices), Holly Near's "Singing for Our Lives", and Ysaye Barnwell's version of the Civil Rights song, "Woke Up This Morning". The first half ends with jazz testaments to freedom, including Billy Taylor's "I Wish I Know How It Would Feel to Be Free".

The second half opens and closes with the great American anthems, "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Lift Every Voice and Sing" in a stirring arrangement by Roland Carter. The tenors and basses will sing the Crosby, Stills & Nash song "Find the Cost of Freedom" and everyone will join in singing the South African freedom song, "We Shall Not Give Up the Fight". Our traditional encore with alumni will be Jane Sapp's version of Woody Gutherie's "This Land is Your Land."
